About Smallenburg Skatepark
Smallenburg Skatepark (located inside Smallenburg Park) is a free public, outdoor concrete skatepark at 325 Fairbanks Ave, Holland, MI 49423. Sitting just east of downtown Holland beside Hope College, the park was designed and built by Spohn Ranch as a roughly 10,000-square-foot neighborhood skate plaza, with construction wrapping up in late 2011 and the park opening around the start of 2012. It was Spohn Ranch's second project for the Holland area and was developed with input from local skaters during the design process. The City of Holland operates Smallenburg Park daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The layout is almost entirely street focused, built around a broad open concrete plaza with plenty of room to carry speed between obstacles. A raised center section anchors the park with stair sets, hubba ledges, handrails, banks, and drops, while the surrounding lines work in additional flat ledges, manual pads, blocks, a flat bar, smaller stairs, bank ramps, hips, and quarter pipes along the edges. The relatively low-profile obstacles and long approaches make it especially good for technical street skating and learning lines without the park feeling cramped. Skateboards, scooters, and BMX bikes are all commonly ridden here. The fenced skate area sits beneath mature shade trees and shares Smallenburg Park with parking, an ADA-accessible playground, picnic shelters and tables, open green space, seasonal restrooms, and the adjacent Bouws Pool.
