About Pontiac Skatepark
The new Pontiac Skatepark, located in Oakland Park, Pontiac, Michigan, is a 10,000-square-foot, cast-in-place concrete facility designed by Grindline Skateparks. It features a variety of elements, including ramps of various sizes, handrails, flat rails, ledges, and other amenities suitable for skaters of all skill levels. The park also incorporates a rain garden for water drainage, native plant landscaping, and new sidewalks leading to the skatepark. The project was a collaborative effort involving the City of Pontiac, the Pontiac Skatepark Project, local activists, and organizations like The Skatepark Project (formerly the Tony Hawk Foundation) and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. Funding included a $250,000 matching grant from The Skatepark Project, with additional contributions from McLaren Oakland Hospital, the Girls’ Friendly Society, and the Oakland County Commission, totaling $568,000. The skatepark is open to the public, with winter hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (November 16 to March 14) and summer hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (March 15 to November 14). Skaters are advised to wear protective equipment, avoid skating during inclement weather, and respect local residents and park cleanliness.
