Situated in Detroit’s East Village on the grounds of The Shepherd, this unique skatepark was thoughtfully designed by skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and world-renowned artist McArthur Binion. Together, they blended functional skate features with artistic expression to create a space that reflects the heart and soul of Detroit. The project came to life through a partnership between Library Street Collective and Jefferson East, Inc., with funding and support from over 70 artists who participated in a special fundraiser exhibition. Today, It Takes a Village Skatepark is a vibrant public space where skaters, artists, and neighbors come together. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, it welcomes all to experience the energy, creativity, and unity that make Detroit’s East Side so special.
