About Chanticleer Park Pump Track
Chanticleer Park Pump Track is a free, outdoor dirt pump track located at 1975 Chanticleer Ave inside Chanticleer County Park, in the Live Oak neighborhood of Santa Cruz, California. The roughly 10,550-square-foot track originally opened in October 2013 and has become one of the most popular public pump tracks in Santa Cruz County. The track received a major makeover in March 2020 from the Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS) trail crew, who rebuilt the berms, rollers, and jumps and installed advanced drainage plus a larger starting area to cut down on maintenance. SCMTS continues to help maintain the track through its trail adoption program. Riding here is free and unsupervised, with the park open from sunrise to sunset. The dirt track offers berms, rollers, and flowy lines with multiple courses at different difficulty levels, so beginners and experienced riders can each find a suitable loop. It is best suited to mountain bikes and BMX bikes, though local guides note scooters and skateboards visit as well; dirt conditions favor knobby tires, and the track may be soft after rain. The surrounding county park was significantly upgraded when Phase 1 of the Chanticleer Avenue County Park Master Plan opened in January 2020. Amenities now include LEO's Haven, a celebrated inclusive playground for children of all abilities, ADA restrooms with adult changing tables, picnic areas, fenced off-leash dog areas for large and small dogs, community garden plots, public art, and a 33-space parking lot with ADA stalls plus street parking along Chanticleer Avenue. With its combination of a legit dirt pump track and a first-rate family park around it, Chanticleer is an easy all-ages stop between Santa Cruz and Capitola, just off Soquel Avenue near Highway 1.
