About Whitby Skatepark
Whitby Skatepark, also known as Whitby Bowl, is a free, outdoor concrete skate bowl on the West Cliff in Whitby, North Yorkshire, right by the coastline overlooking the sea. It was designed and built by Freestyle and opened in 2008. It's a compact, transition-focused concrete bowl with metal coping, built for carving and flow rather than street skating. The bowl has varying heights with a flat bottom, plus a couple of roll-ins, a spine, and extensions. A central volcano keeps lines interesting and gives it a fun, playful feel that suits transition skaters of different levels. It's floodlit too, so sessions can carry on into the evening. Its clifftop seaside setting, with the sea as a backdrop, makes it one of the more scenic little bowls in the country. Reviewers note there's nothing here for street skaters, but plenty to keep transition riders and BMXers entertained. It welcomes skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, and rollerbladers. It sits within the West Cliff recreation area alongside a newer pump track, the West Cliff paddling pool, Whitby Pavilion, and the beach, with parking nearby, making it an easy stop on a trip to the seaside town.
