About The Level

The Level is a free, outdoor polished-concrete skatepark set in the northern quadrant of The Level, a historic eight-acre park in central Brighton. It's bounded by Union Road, Ditchling Road, and Richmond Terrace, and it's run by Brighton & Hove City Council. It opened in June 2013, designed and built by Freestyle Skateparks in collaboration with the Brighton & Hove Skateparks Association, replacing an older wooden park from the 1970s. The 1,400-square-metre park was built as part of a wider £2.2 million National Lottery-funded restoration of The Level. The triangular site splits into a plaza-style street section and a transition area, so there's a line for every style. A large sunken bowl with a spine dominates one end, joined by a mini ramp, a stairset and handrail, kickers, a grind block, ledges with coping, and a quarter with a long vert extension. Shallow beginner-friendly areas sit alongside a progressive street section, making it genuinely all-levels. That mix, plus its central location, is why it's now widely regarded as the centre of Brighton's skate scene. Set among nationally significant elm trees, it's a family-friendly spot with a café, playground, rose garden, and toilets in the surrounding park, and a skate shop just a 30-second walk away. It's unsupervised and open 24 hours.
