About Saughton Skatepark
Saughton Skatepark is a free, outdoor concrete skatepark in Saughton Park on the west side of Edinburgh, run by the City of Edinburgh Council. It's one of the largest outdoor concrete skateparks in the UK and the biggest in Scotland, spanning around 2,000 square metres. After previous attempts to build an Edinburgh skatepark had failed, it was approved in 2008 and completed in 2010. It was built by Clachan Construction to a design by Urban Design Futures at a cost of £800,000. The park splits into three main sections. The flowing transitions area packs in a cradle, vert walls, spines, volcanoes, a speed bowl, extensions, roll-overs, pump bumps and hips, arranged so you can pump around all day without pushing once. An L-shaped street run wraps the rest of the park with ledges, hubbas, rails, flat banks, a pyramid funbox, a hipped bank, a manny pad, and a bowled corner. In the back corner sits a bowl section, a square bowl with two rounded pool corners, old-school pool coping, and an extension. It draws riders from across Scotland and the UK, suits all abilities, and welcomes skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, and rollerbladers. It's free, open 24 hours with no pads required, and sits within the restored Saughton Park, which had its own separate £8 million National Lottery revamp, alongside a playground, café, athletics track, and the Water of Leith Walkway.
