About Livingston (Livi)

Livingston Skatepark, known everywhere as Livi, is a free, outdoor concrete skatepark set in Almondvale Park in the heart of Livingston New Town, West Lothian. It's run by West Lothian Council and sits above the south bank of the River Almond. It opened in 1981 as the first skatepark of its quality and scale in Europe. The idea came from local skater Kenny Omond, who visited California in the late 1970s, and it was designed by architect Iain Urquhart of the Livingston Development Corporation, inspired by his skater wife Dee and by empty Californian pools. The park is built from shotcrete and centres on a very deep interlocking double bowl and a large reservoir with a banked carving area and a half-pipe. It was extended in 1992 by Kenny Omond and again in 2015, growing its terrain over the decades. Its scale and finely tuned transitions gave it instant global fame, drawing skate legends including Steve Caballero and Mike McGill. Tony Hawk visited in 1991 and famously called it a "legendary spot," riding its championship half-pipe and deep bowl to an entranced crowd. In February 2024, Livi became the first listed skatepark in Scotland, protected at Category B by Historic Environment Scotland as the oldest purpose-built skatepark in the country. It's the second listed skatepark in the UK after Rom, and it's celebrated in the film "Long Live Livi."
