About Kennington Park
Kennington Park Skatepark, also known as Kennington Bowl or "Kenny," is a free outdoor concrete skatebowl at the northern end of Kennington Park in south London. It opened in 1978 and is one of the UK's oldest purpose-built skateparks. Designed by Lorne Edwards, the "grandfather of British skateboarding," it uses his Radical Banking precast concrete system, inspired by skateparks he visited in the US. The bowl was refurbished by Converse and California Skateparks in 2012, adding roll-ins, a bowled corner, a love-seat extension, and bank-to-ledge features. However, underlying foundation and ground-movement problems later caused cracks and uneven sections, eventually forcing its closure. The Bring Back Kennington Bowl campaign relaunched in 2025 and gathered more than 2,500 signatures. Lambeth Council has since committed ยฃ566,000 to restore the bowl, including new foundations, realignment of the concrete slabs, repairs, and an accessible ramp.
