About Junction 4
Junction 4, now known as Junction 4 Urban Sports Village, is a paid urban sports facility on Blackburn Road in Darwen, Lancashire, just off the M65, which gives it its name. It sits next to Darwen Vale School on the former Blackburn Rovers Sports Academy site. It started as the borough's first skatepark, an indoor BMX and skatepark that opened around 2015 in a 7,000-square-foot air-conditioned warehouse with bespoke wooden ramps, run as a Community Interest Company. The indoor park is built around a large bowl with an oververt and a wall ride, plus a resi-ramp, a box, rails, quarter pipes, and a street section. It has since expanded into a full urban sports village, adding a competition-level all-weather outdoor concrete park built by Four One Four Skateparks. That side brings a street plaza, dirt jumps, and a pump track. Together, the two parks cater to BMX, scooter, skateboard, and mountain bike riders of all levels, from complete beginners right up to Olympians. The outdoor plaza packs in stair sets with handrails, funboxes, ledges, banks, and quarter pipes. On-site there's the Cellblock BMX shop, a large chill-out room with a pool table, a restaurant serving fresh burgers and pizzas, and a licensed Terrace Bar for a sunset cocktail. It's open seven days a week, staffed by first-aid-trained coaches, wheelchair accessible, with free parking.
