About Concrete Waves
Concrete Waves is a free, world-class outdoor concrete skatepark in Trenance Park, Newquay, tucked just behind Newquay Zoo in Cornwall. It was designed and built by Maverick Skateparks as their flagship park, and it's now widely rated as one of the best outdoor skateparks in the UK. It opened in July 2018 after roughly a decade of community campaigning, replacing the timber "Wooden Waves" park from 2003 that had rotted in the harsh Cornish coastal weather. The build cost around ยฃ540,000, funded largely by the council through Section 106 money, with ยฃ75,000 topped up by Sport England's Community Asset Fund. The design is a flowing, California-inspired layout meant to feel like surfing on concrete. It's organised into four linked areas: an expansive street run, an internationally significant bowl, a retro-style pool, and a stair set, plus a snake run. Those zones connect into one enormous flow park when it's quiet, or split into separate independent areas when it's busy, which lets large numbers ride safely at once. It's geared for all abilities up to professional level, and it welcomes skateboards, BMX, scooters, and rollerblades. There are no floodlights, so it's strictly a daylight spot. Free parking, a summer kiosk for drinks and snacks, and the wider Trenance Leisure Park with its zoo, boating lake, and gardens make it an easy all-day destination.
