About Charlton Park
Charlton Park is a free, outdoor concrete skatepark on the east side of Charlton Park in Charlton, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, south-east London. It sits next to the adiZone outdoor gym, in the sports and fitness corner of the park. It opened in October 2017, with an opening jam on the 21st, after a long campaign by local skateboarders. Stuart Hopper and others formed the Greenwich Skatepark Co-operative and fought through borough politics to get it built. The park was designed and built by Bendcrete and co-funded by Berkeley Homes, who reportedly chipped in to help move the park a few miles from their luxury apartments over noise and graffiti concerns. It's a well-rounded concrete park with a bowl and a street section. The street side offers a nice variety of obstacles, including flat banks, ledges, a box, manual pads, rails, and a quarter pipe, suiting both transition and street skaters. It welcomes skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, and rollerbladers, and School of Skate runs weekend lessons there. It sits within Green Flag-winning Charlton Park, alongside the outdoor gym, table tennis, a wheelchair-accessible playground, floodlit sports pitches, and the historic Charlton House with its Mulberry Tea Rooms and gardens. It's free and always open, though locals have petitioned for lighting to make evening use possible.
