About Cantelowes Bowl

Cantelowes Bowl, better known as Cantelowes or Camden Skatepark, is a free, outdoor all-concrete skatepark in Cantelowes Gardens off Camden Road in north London, run by Camden Council. It's widely rated as one of the UK's premier outdoor parks. The site has been skated since the late 1980s, when a basic council-built concrete park became a beloved core London spot through the 1990s. By the mid-2000s it was cracked and dated, and Camden ran a £1.5 million redevelopment of Cantelowes Gardens that included a brand-new skatepark. Rather than leave it to contractors, a group of local skaters and BMXers known as the "Cantelocals" volunteered their professional skills in architecture, engineering, and construction to help design and oversee the rebuild. They secured funding including a Sport England grant, worked with builder Wheelscape, and reopened the park with a launch party in April 2007. The park splits into two parts. Its large quirky-shaped bowl runs three sections at 5, 6.5, and 8 feet, with hips, roll-ins, a love seat, a 9-foot over-vert cradle, a vert extension, and a banked extension. An L-shaped street section wraps the bowl with flat banks, a large banked hip, a driveway with a euro gap, a grind block, and a steep bank good for grinds. It welcomes skateboarders, BMX riders, rollerbladers, and scooters with pads required, and the site also has an adjacent pump track, a playground, tennis courts, and gardens, an easy walk from Camden Road and Camden Town stations.
