About Campus Pool

Campus Pool is a paid, indoor concrete skatepark built inside a former swimming pool on Whitchurch Road in Bishopsworth, South Bristol. It's operated by Campus Skateparks as a social enterprise, leased rent-free from Bristol City Council. The former Bishopsworth Swimming Pool closed in 2012 after Hengrove Park Leisure Centre opened. Campus, run by Andre Seidel and Tim Nokes of Transitions Skate, had been providing portable ramps at youth clubs and ran their first stand-alone skatepark in 2011. They enquired about the disused pool in 2012 and, after an extensive two-year community consultation and a local petition to save the site, secured a community asset transfer. Work began in March 2015, and it opened in July 2015 using an £80,000 loan from Big Issue Invest to convert the building, with a later £75,000 Sport England grant adding the community café. Designed and built by Canvas, the world-class street-based park keeps the striking original pool decor, blending street and transition with a central pool bowl, a vert corner, banks, hubbas, rails, and ledges. A crowdfunded wooden mini-ramp and beginners' section in birch ply was later added off the main concrete park. It's designed for all ages and abilities and welcomes skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX riders, and rollerbladers, with helmets mandatory. On-site there's a reception skate shop, a café, a meeting room, holiday Skate Club, coaching, and parking.
