Chernivtsi's skatepark in October Park serves this Bukovina capital whose university - a UNESCO World Heritage site - is one of the most architecturally spectacular educational buildings in the world, designed by Czech architect Josef Hlรกvka in a Byzantine-Moorish fantasy. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. Chernivtsi (formerly Czernowitz) was a multicultural Habsburg jewel where Ukrainian, Romanian, Jewish, Polish, and German cultures intersected. Paul Celan, one of the greatest 20th-century poets, grew up here. The park draws riders from the Bukovina region. The food blends Ukrainian, Romanian, and Austrian traditions - mamalyha, sarmale, strudel, and brynza cheese.
