About Urbani Park Velenje
Velenje's Urbani Park skatepark serves this unique planned socialist city built from scratch in the 1950s around the Premogovnik coal mine - one of the few purpose-built Yugoslav-era towns. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and rails. Velenje's artificial lake, created by mining subsidence, has been turned into a recreation area, and the city's modernist architecture is a time capsule of Titoist urban planning. The nearby Šoštanj thermal power plant contrasts with the surrounding Alpine scenery. The park draws riders from the Šaleška Valley. The food is Slovenian - štruklji rolled dumplings, jota bean stew, and local Savinjska valley wines.
