Irkutsk's skatepark on Youth Island serves the 'Paris of Siberia' - the cultured city near Lake Baikal that was the exile destination for Decembrist revolutionaries whose wives followed them into Siberian banishment, bringing European culture. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. Lake Baikal, the world's deepest and oldest lake containing 20% of the world's fresh surface water, is just 70 km away. Irkutsk's wooden lace houses and merchant quarter are architectural treasures. The park draws riders from Eastern Siberia. The food features Baikal omul fish, buuzy (Buryat steamed dumplings), and Siberian pine-nut cuisine.
