About Skatepark Vliedpark
Sommelsdijk's Vliedpark skatepark brings concrete skating to the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, one of the South Holland islands in the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta. The park features ledges, banks, a quarter pipe, manual pads, and a flat bar in a well-designed layout. The island setting gives the park a distinctly different feel from mainland parks - the pace is slower, the air is saltier, and the surrounding landscape of dikes, polders, and fishing harbors reflects centuries of living with the sea. The island was devastated by the 1953 North Sea flood, and the Delta Works that now protect it are among the greatest engineering achievements of the twentieth century. Summer brings beachgoers and windsurfers to the island's coast, and the park sees increased use from visiting families. This is small-island Dutch skating at its most authentic.
