About Skatepark Emmeloord
Emmeloord's skatepark serves this small Flevoland town at the center of the Noordoostpolder, the first of the IJsselmeer polders to be completed in 1942. The concrete park features ledges, banks, manual pads, a quarter pipe, and flat bars. Emmeloord was literally planned on a drawing board and built from scratch on the drained seabed, giving it a geometric, organized layout typical of polder towns. The surrounding agricultural land is some of the most fertile in the Netherlands, producing potatoes, sugar beets, and tulips. The park serves the local community and provides one of the few dedicated youth recreation spaces in this agricultural town. Schokland, a former island that now sits in the middle of dry farmland, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site nearby - a surreal reminder of the landscape before drainage. The annual tulip festival brings color to the flat polder in spring.
