About Jelgava Skatepark
Jelgava's skatepark on Pasta Sala (Post Island) in the Lielupe river serves the former capital of the Duchy of Courland - a small Baltic state that punched absurdly above its weight, colonizing Tobago and Gambia in the 17th century. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. The massive Jelgava Palace, designed by Rastrelli (who also designed St. Petersburg's Winter Palace), houses the Latvia University of Life Sciences. The city was almost entirely destroyed in WWII. The park draws riders from the Zemgale region. The food is Zemgale - Latvia's agricultural heartland produces excellent dairy, grains, and the honey that flavors traditional desserts.
