About Aizkraukle Skate
Aizkraukle's skatepark serves this Daugava-side town built in the 1960s to house workers constructing the Pļaviņas Hydroelectric Dam - Latvia's largest power station, which controversially flooded the legendary Staburags cliff and Daugava rapids. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. Aizkraukle's Soviet-planned layout with its central square and apartment blocks contrasts with the surrounding ancient Daugava valley landscape. The park draws riders from the Aizkraukle municipality. The food is Soviet-industrial town fare updated for modern Latvia - cafeterias and small restaurants serving traditional Latvian dishes to the dam-workers' descendants.
