About Taranto Skatepark
Taranto's 2018 skatepark serves this ancient Greek colony city - founded as Taras by Spartan settlers - on the Ionian coast. The concrete park features ledges, banks, manual pads, quarter pipes, and flat bars. Taranto's Museo Archeologico Nazionale holds one of Italy's finest collections of Magna Graecia artifacts, including extraordinary gold jewelry. The city occupies a unique position between two bodies of water - the Mare Grande and Mare Piccolo - connected by a swing bridge. The park draws riders from the Taranto area. The city faces environmental challenges from its massive steel works but is actively working to revitalize its stunning old town on the island. Fresh seafood from the Mare Piccolo's mussel farms is exceptional - cozze (mussels) in various preparations are the local specialty.
