About Athy Skatepark
On the River Barrow in south Kildare, Athy's skatepark gives this historic canal and river town a modern recreational facility. The park features a mini ramp, quarter pipes, ledges, a flat rail, and a manual pad. Athy was an important crossing point on the Barrow for centuries, and the medieval White's Castle guards the bridge. The Barrow Line canal meets the river here, and the waterways provide excellent kayaking and fishing. The town is also the starting point of the Gordon Bennett Route - Ireland's historic motor racing circuit. Local riders enjoy the riverside park setting, and the town has good pubs and restaurants. The surrounding Kildare countryside is flat and agricultural, and the Curragh is nearby. It's a pleasant, unassuming Irish country town with a park that serves its community well.
