About Kohtla-Järve Skate
Kohtla-Järve's skatepark serves Estonia's oil-shale mining capital - a unique Soviet-era industrial city built to extract and process oil shale, a fossil fuel found in abundance in northeastern Estonia. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. The city's unusual multi-part structure (several separate urban districts connected by industrial zones) reflects Soviet industrial planning. The Estonian Mining Museum in nearby Kohtla offers underground tours. The park draws riders from the mining region. The food is industrial Ida-Virumaa - Russian-influenced cafeterias and the hearty miners' fare of this working-class region.
