About Tilawa Skatepark
[Temporarily closed] Tilawa Skatepark holds a special place in Costa Rican skate history as the home of the first concrete bowl ever built in the country. Located on the shores of Lake Arenal at the Hotel Tilawa property (now Lake Arenal Hotel & Brewery), the park was designed by pro skaters from the United States and built with the help of Cyrus Watson from Grindline, one of the most respected skatepark construction companies in the world. The build took four years to complete. The park features a 6-foot bowl, a 9-foot pool with a serious drop-in (helmets and pads strongly recommended), and a 10-foot vert ramp with hips. The street section includes a pyramid, a funbox with a BBQ grill built into it, a handrail, a ledge, and a roll-in. The park has been featured on Adrenalina TV and ESPN. The setting is incredible - jungle vegetation, Lake Arenal shoreline, and views of Arenal Volcano make this one of the most scenic skatepark locations anywhere. The hotel offers pools, a restaurant, a brewery, and camping. It's about 2 hours from Monteverde, 1 hour 45 minutes from La Fortuna, and roughly 4.5 hours from San José by bus. Hotel guests skate free; outsiders pay about $4 USD. Must bring your own board.
