About Skatepark Naranjo

Skatepark Naranjo is located at the southwest corner of the Parque Central in the town of Naranjo, a small agricultural community in the western Central Valley of Alajuela Province, about 50 kilometers northwest of San José. The park was inaugurated on January 11, 2020, by the Naranjo Municipality under Mayor Juan Luis Chaves, after a two-year development process that included several legal appeals delaying construction. The park features two distinct circuits - one for amateurs and one for professionals - with accessibility-compliant ramps meeting Costa Rica's Law 7600 standards for people with disabilities. The design accommodates skateboarding, BMX, scooter, and roller-blade use. It was the first skatepark in Naranjo's history. The inauguration featured notable Costa Rican athletes including Kenneth Tencio (the country's premier BMX athlete who went on to represent Costa Rica at the Olympics) and Lou Uba (one of the first Costa Rican BMX acrobats to compete internationally), along with exhibitions from the Extremo Skatepark Móvil team.
