About Skatepark Josema
Skatepark Josema - officially the Parque de Deportes Urbanos José María Zeledón - is a full-featured concrete skatepark in the Curridabat suburb of eastern San José. The park was completely remodeled by the Curridabat Municipality and reopened on July 10, 2022, with a design by Andre Ramirez, who is both a skateboarder and an architect. Young people from the community participated in the design process, providing input on track features, slopes, and materials. The rebuilt park features a triple bowl, mini halfpipe, manual pads with rails, stairs with grind rails, boxes, banks, ledges, and various transition features. A reviewer from Punk Rock Mag who skated the park praised the ground condition as "100% optimal for rolling" and called it "one of the best" skateparks in the country, noting it appeared to have been built by "someone competent" - a distinction he specifically contrasted with other poorly constructed Costa Rican parks. The Curridabat Municipality built this park to support a sport that had been "always marginalized" in Costa Rica, with practitioners historically "labeled as delinquents." The inauguration drew massive participation from children and youth practicing skate, roller, scooter, and BMX.
