About Parque la Libertad Skatepark
Parque la Libertad Skatepark is located within the massive 37-hectare Parque La Libertad social development campus in Fátima, Desamparados, south of San José. The skatepark was first inaugurated on July 24, 2012, sponsored by Florida Bebidas who contributed over $20,000 for the structure and installation. The original opening drew 35 young skateboarders. The park underwent a major renovation and expansion completed in February 2021, with an enlarged skating space allowing more tricks and greater safety, plus additional practice structures. The expansion also added Costa Rica's first specialized parkour circuit, designed with the Costa Rica Parkour Federation and professor Raúl Solano Jiménez from Natural Evolution. Parque La Libertad itself is far more than a skatepark - it's built on 37 hectares of former Holcim cement company land and serves as a full social development campus with educational, cultural, and recreational programming reaching over 70,000 annual visitors. The park serves youth from three cantons: Desamparados, Curridabat, and La Unión. Open daily 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
