About Samokov Skatepark
Samokov's skatepark serves this mountain town that's the gateway to Borovets, Bulgaria's oldest ski resort established in 1896 as a hunting retreat for the Bulgarian royal family. The concrete park features ledges, banks, quarter pipes, manual pads, and flat bars. Samokov's name means 'self-hammering' - referring to the water-powered iron hammers that drove the town's medieval metallurgy. The Samokov Art School produced Bulgaria's finest 19th-century icon painters. Rila Mountain and the spectacular Rila Monastery are nearby. The park draws riders from the Rila area. The food is Rila mountain - trout, bean soup, mountain tea, and the monastery-style cooking of Bulgaria's most sacred landscape.
