# West Virginia ranks No. 17 in the nation for public skateparks per resident, Skatedex finds

WEST VIRGINIA, Sept. 16, 2026 -- West Virginia has 1.25 public skateparks for every 100,000 residents, ranking No. 17 of 50 states in the 2026 Skateparks per Capita rankings released today by Skatedex, the largest skatepark directory on the web.

The rankings count 22 public, open skateparks in West Virginia against the Census Bureau's latest population estimate of 1,766,147. That is above the national rate of 0.77 parks per 100,000 residents.

No West Virginia city of 50,000 or more residents has a public skatepark inside its limits.

No neighboring state ranks higher: Ohio, the closest, is No. 28 with 0.79 parks per 100,000 residents.
