# Maryland ranks No. 42 in the nation for public skateparks per resident, Skatedex finds

BOWIE, Sept. 16, 2026 -- Maryland has 0.38 public skateparks for every 100,000 residents, ranking No. 42 of 50 states in the 2026 Skateparks per Capita rankings released today by Skatedex, the largest skatepark directory on the web.

The rankings count 24 public, open skateparks in Maryland against the Census Bureau's latest population estimate of 6,265,347. That is below the national rate of 0.77 parks per 100,000 residents.

Within the state, Bowie leads its cities of 50,000 or more residents with 1.7 public skateparks per 100,000 people, followed by Rockville and Gaithersburg.

Neighboring West Virginia, the highest-ranked state next door, is No. 17 with 1.25 parks per 100,000 residents.
