# Illinois ranks No. 31 in the nation for public skateparks per resident, Skatedex finds

BOLINGBROOK, Sept. 16, 2026 -- Illinois has 0.74 public skateparks for every 100,000 residents, ranking No. 31 of 50 states in the 2026 Skateparks per Capita rankings released today by Skatedex, the largest skatepark directory on the web.

The rankings count 94 public, open skateparks in Illinois against the Census Bureau's latest population estimate of 12,719,141. That is below the national rate of 0.77 parks per 100,000 residents.

Within the state, Bolingbrook leads its cities of 50,000 or more residents with 2.7 public skateparks per 100,000 people, followed by Naperville and Champaign.

Neighboring Iowa, the highest-ranked state next door, is No. 15 with 1.39 parks per 100,000 residents.
